PCT Day 24

May 6, 2019
Oops, We Did It Again!

We woke up ready to head back to trail…kinda. We went out to breakfast, walking 0.6 miles each way. We ran into Preston and David on the way back. (Preston/Munchies is leaving trail next week for a wedding- we hope to see him again in Kennedy Meadows!)

We showered. We shaved for the first time since Julian! We ran to the post office to pick up our boxes. We finally made note of what was in the boxes so we could better prepare for the next resupply. We semi packed the boxes back up again, since we had gone grocery shopping the day before and didn’t need much from the boxes. We packed our packs, which took us both a few tries since we now have SO much food it didn’t all fit.

By the time we were ready to check out of our room it was 1pm. We walked outside to walk to the post office and found that what was once a beautiful sunny day was now cloudy and cold, with rain expected. We didn’t care- we couldn’t take another zero!
We did our chores at the post office and tried to Uber/Lyft to run one more errand before heading back to trail but there were no drivers nearby. We tried calling a local trail angel who generously drives hikers when he is available, but he was out of town. We walked a bit until this amazing man picked us up.
We ran our errand and stopped for a ridiculously large lunch.

We finally got a Lyft to the trailhead. While on our way we got a text from Big Mama- it was hailing and cold on trail- they were at mile 266** and going to head back into town for the night. When we got to the trailhead Matt decided that if we could fit in their ride back to town, we would join them…

Needless to say, it’s our third time trying to leave town on a Monday, it’s the third Monday it has rained since we started, and it’s our third unexpected zero day! IN A ROW!!!

**Since Big Mama, Columbia, She-Wee, and Yaara all hitched from 250 on Saturday, they had gone back to trail on Sunday to start from 250- turns out they hit major trail magic at about mile 252, so they cut their hike short that day and enjoyed all sorts of treats! (Beef burgers, turkey burgers, veggie burgers, and salmon burgers were all offered!!) They had planned to get in some good miles today, but when it started to rain and hail, they decided to call it quits for the day at 266 where they could easily head to town. Now we are all at the same mile to start!!

Happiness is: making more warm decisions.
